Ținutul binecuvântat
Ooo, ce m-am bucurat!…
A venit ingerul (*)!….
A venit așa cum se vine,
dintr-o dată
l-am văzut în grădină.
Ooo, ce m-am mai bucurat!…
Și el era bucuros…
Îi plăcea că-i verde totul,
pomii și iarba încă necosită.
Doar cerul era albastru, albastru,
senin, senin…
Și-o liniște, o liniște
de se vedea bucuria noastră
peste tot…
Și ingerul
s-a apucat să strângă și el
ierburi pentru supă.
Știa el ce ierburi anume
sunt mai bune.
Și s-a lăsat pe spate în iarbă,
privind cerul…
Și eu i-am zis cu drag:
„Hai în casă și-ntinde-te pe pat,
să nu te tragă pământul…”
În casă, supa era gata,
trasă de pe foc.
Arăta bine.
„Nu-i mai trebuie nimic”,
îmi zice ingerul,
„e destul, are tot ce trebe…”
Dar cuvintele-i erau
tot mai departe,
de nu le mai înțeleg bine
și el tot mai departe
de nu-i mai văd
decât zâmbetul de inger…

Blessed Land
Translated into English by Diana Gabriela Radu

Oh, what joy!…
The angel had come!…
He came just the way such things come,
suddenly
I saw him in the garden.
Oh, what joy filled my heart!…
He too was glad…
He liked that everything was green,
the trees and the grass yet to be cut.
Only the sky was blue, so blue
and clear, so clear…
And there was this silence, such silence
that our joy could be seen
all around…
And the angel
he too started to pick
some herbs for a soup.
He knew precisely what herbs
were best.
So he lay on his back in the grass,
gazing at the sky…
And I told him lovingly:
”Come on in and lie on the bed,
before the earth gives you a chill…”
Inside, the soup was ready,
just pulled from the stove.
It looked good.
”It needs nothing more”,
the angel says to me,
”it’s enough, it has all it needs…”
But his words drifted
farther and farther away,
until I could hardly understand them
and he, too, was farther still
so that all was left for me to see
was his angelic smile…
